Run, walk, or shuffle your way through our inaugural QUT Classic for QUT's Learning Potential Fund on 5 May. With scenic 1km, 5km and 10km routes around QUT Gardens Point and the CBD, this all-inclusive, family friendly event will have something for everyone.

Join the fun if you’d like to compete as a team or individual, get fit, or simply have fun with your friends. $2 from each registration and all profits from the event will be donated to the QUT Learning Potential Fund.

QUT Running is offering training sessions for those who'd like to improve their fitness for this event.

Free training sessions

QUT Running is offering FREE training sessions for all QUT Classic registrants in the lead up to this epic event. These training sessions are suitable for everyone, so come along if you’d like to improve your fitness and wellbeing, or make new friends and training buddies.

The free running sessions are scheduled on:
  • Monday 4pm at Gardens Point followed by steaks at Beachouse
  • Tuesday 4pm at Kelvin Grove
  • Wednesday 8am at Gardens Point
  • Thursday 8am at Kelvin Grove
  • Friday 8am at Gardens Point
  • Friday 6pm at Gardens Point

Runs at Gardens Point depart from the Kidney Lawn.

Runs at Kelvin Grove depart from the Sport Oval near J Block.

Route

The QUT Classic will begin at 8.00am on 5 May 2013. Entrants can pick one of three courses, including a 1km, 5km and 10km track. The race will begin by Parliament House, and end at QUT Gardens Point Campus where breakfast will be available for purchase.

Registration

Registration will be available via QUTPay until 30 April 2013, and participants who register during this period will receive a Running Kit that includes a race bib, electronic timer, and race briefing. In addition, the first 1,000 registrants, who register by 23 April, will receive a FREE limited edition QUT Classic T-shirt.

Terms and conditions

Prizes

Prizes will be awarded for the:

  • first, second and third placed male and female 5km and 10km runners
  • $30 Nando's voucher for the first over 40 for the 5km and 10km route
  • $30 Nando's voucher for the first under 16 for the 5km route
  • $30 Nando's voucher for the first under 12 for the 1km route
  • $500 cash prize for the team with the most members (minimum 50 members)
  • $500 sport equipment voucher for the primary school team with the most members (minimum 50 members)
  • $500 sport equipment voucher for the high school team with the most members (minimum 50 members)
  • a case of all natural, super-hydrating Vita Coco coconut water for the best dressed team.

As an extra incentive for QUT clubs and societies, $2 from each club/society team registrant will go back to your club.

FAQs

How do I get to the start line?

There are a variety of public transport options to get to the starting line:

  • Central train station is suitable for competitors coming in from the North of Brisbane.
  • South Bank train station is available for competitors coming in from the South of Brisbane.
  • The South Bank and Queensland University of Technology Gardens Point ferry terminals are ideal for people coming in from the East or West suburbs of Brisbane along the Brisbane River.
  • King George bus station and the South Bank bus station are also within walking distance of the venue.

How do I get home after finishing?

The race ends at the QUT Gardens Point Campus, by the Kidney Lawn. From here, competitors can use public transport from Central train station, South Bank train station, South Bank ferry terminal, QUT Gardens Point ferry terminal, King George Square Bus station and South Bank bus station to get home.

When can I get my race pack?

Competitors can pick up their race pack on Saturday 27 April 2013 and Saturday 4 May 2013 between 9.00am and 4.00pm from QUT. Race packs cannot be collected on the day of the event.

Race packs include your race bib, electronic timer, and race briefing.

Why should I take part?

$2 from each registration and all profit raised by the QUT Classic will go to the QUT Learning Potential Fund. This fund is used to help students who face financial hardship to attend university. By competing, you ensure that additional scholarships can be awarded in 2013/2014.

Can I park at the event?

Limited parking is available at the QUT campus and surrounding areas. It’s strongly recommended that you use public transport to get to the event.

What food and drink is available?

Water stations will be provided every 2km – 3km in the race. Food will also be available for purchase at the end of the event.

Are prams or pets allowed?

Pets aren’t allowed, but runners with prams may start at the back of the race.

Can I bring an iPod or MP3 player?

You may bring music devices to the event. To ensure you can hear instructions and other safety messages, it’s recommended that you keep the sound to a low volume.

Where are toilets located?

Toilets will be available near the start line, finish line and along the route.
