Returning student scoops two awards
Lori Shaw always knew she wanted to study at university, however she didn't want to commit to a course she didn't truly love.
Instead she decided to take time out after high school to work and travel overseas.
It was during this time she fell into events management and discovered a passion for marketing.
"When I came back home from overseas, I knew the timing was perfect to finally get that business degree I'd always dreamed of," Lori said.
"A business degree not only assists me with my career and my future, it also offers me skills and knowledge that I can't get in a workplace.
"I study hard because I want to learn everything I can to help me succeed."
Now in her final year, her passion and dedication has helped her to secure two university awards including best overall performance in first year studies in Business at Caboolture and best overall performance in Management at Caboolture.
Business lecturer Maria Kaya said Lori's achievements were well deserved.
"Lori is just a great student. She's proactive, well prepared and works really hard," Ms Kaya said.
"I'm really happy for her and I know she's got a brilliant career in front of her."
Ms Kaya said getting recognition is a nice motivator for students and awards are also a good boost to the resume.
"Lori really demonstrates how students can make the most of their university experience."
"It is important to contribute and make a positive difference in class - you really do learn more by participating."
Lori said she loved studying at QUT.
"Returning to study can be a very daunting experience, however the Caboolture Campus made the transition so much easier," she said.
"Staff are dedicated to helping students succeed, particularly at Caboolture where the pace is a little slower and people are willing to take a little extra time to help you out."
