Hi, My name is Jessica and I did a double degree in Human Services and Justice at QUT.
I decided to study Human Services because I like the idea of helping people and making a difference in their life.
It gave me lots of options in terms of employment and left me with lots of experience within the industry. One of the highlights of my degree was doing two placements, the first was at a children’s contact centre and the second was at probation and parole.
I really loved going out on placement, because it gave me experience in the field that I wanted to work in. One that I couldn’t gain at other universities and after my second placement I got offered a job.
Human Services is such a diverse field and I love that at QUT I can specialise in the area that I want to work. The lecturers at QUT have real world experience and can offer practical examples to all the theory they throw at us. I chose QUT because it gave me the options of doing a double degree and gave me that extra edge when it came to my career.
I currently work full time as a Probation and Parole Officer. I really enjoy watching offenders complete their orders without contravention. I love my job because every day is different and I get to help offenders change their lives for the better.
