The Masters in Strategic Advertising allows students to build their knowledge and skills in the advertising field. Whether that’s to advance their skills they already have  or to come into the industry afresh.

My name is Josh Daveren and at the moment I’m an account manager at one of the best advertising agencies in the  world, DDB London. Being an accountant  director means that I work in clients services which means we take the brief from the client and try to turn that into great advertising for our brand we work with to make people want to buy their products all over the world.

I chose QUT first because QUT is one of the best universities. QUT is recognised internationally, secondly I chose QUT because QUT is the lecture from the real world. I wanted to learn something practical and something real and something that I can use for the future and thirdly its location in right in the city, its very convenient and beautiful garden right next to the campus and the campus is right facing the river and that is perfect for me.

We look at the creative side in our creative strategies and advertising which particularly highlights how consumers think and behave and how we can tap into their insides to develop great advertising. The  media strategies unit again is taken over a more strategic level where the big picture in media decisions is really examined.

Working at DBD London gives me an opportunity to work with so many amazing global clients. It means the budgets are big it means the work is amazing and it means that I  am dealing with people, clients, brands, business that I’d never get an opportunity to work with in Brisbane.

Most of the students in our classes are either two kinds of people. They are either people who have done our undergrad and are coming back to do the post grad to get the career advancement, to learn the strategic thinking and to get a different focus on advertising. Our other group of students are our career changers. People that perhaps have an undergraduate degree like a teacher, for example, who are looking to move into a career in advertising.

The lecturers I had at QUT while I was doing my masters were fantastic. They all had very much real world experience. A lot of them still had full time jobs in the industry which meant  that they could come to us and talk to us about real issues, real problems and real companies and that meant that we were then give the best lessons to then take on to our jobs when we went into the job market and when we started dealing with our own clients.
