Hi my name is Jess Staats  I’m a recent graduate from QUT I undertook a masters degree in Business specialising in public relations and now I live in New York city.

The Masters in Public Relations at QUT is designed to give students specialist knowledge within the discipline area. So it builds on some of the core principles of public relations but extends it into specialised areas such as crisis communications corporate and investor relations and community consultation and engagement.

Bridget Winkle

My background was in science and journalism. My goal was to be a science or medical writer. I found myself, my first few jobs were in public relations that focused in that science and health care area. And I moved over to the UK in 2006. Over there I worked for the Alzheimer's Research Trust as their public relations officer.

Since moving here I’ve been working for a company called Fashion GPS as their marketing and publicity manager. We are a PR management, sample trafficking and events management software . we have offices in London, Paris and New York.

Public relations course is designed to target two groups. The first group are people who have done an undergrad degree in a totally different area like education or journalism who are wanting to start a career in public relations. The second group that we are targeting are students who are working within the public relations area who want to come into the course to enhance their knowledge and start up some new career options for them within the industry.

Student’s can either choose to study with us on campus in our face to face delivery or to take the Masters of Business and Public Relations online where they can be anywhere in Australia and still complete their degree.

While I was studying at QUT I was working full time at Network 10 as a publicist. QUT were great for the fact that whilst I was working full time I was able to study part time go to night classes and they were really flexible if I had work deadlines with my assignments. They understood what it is like to have a job with demanding hours and being able to study at the same time.

The core structure is really flexible. I’m able to study from 6.00 till 9.00 during the week. And there’s classes on different days of the week if you can’t go one night you can pick a subject where you can go on the day that suits.

In our Masters of Public Relations we stay on top of the industry trends so that we can bring it into the classroom but also connect it with some of the new work that we’re doing in PR research and PR theory. So it gives that holistic feel for our students.
