ELLEN GIBSON: My name is Ellen Gibson. I’m the Manager of International Careers here at QUT in Brisbane. It’s my particular job to assist International Students into the work force in their home countries when they return home as graduates.
Careers and Employment is a free service and we support you on that journey from when you arrive at QUT and certainly prepare you during the journey in applying for jobs in Brisbane and very definitely for applying for jobs in your home country.
Careers and Employment also organizes an International Work Placement Scheme. This is a work placement scheme that applies to students who are going home to their home country during the break at the end of the year. It involves us, QUT organizing with employers in your home country to offer an internship to a student who is going home on a holiday break.
These internships may very often lead to employment at the end of your degree or certainly setting up networks in your home country so when you return as a graduate you know what the employment situation is like, you have links with one company and also of course you have networks you have already set up because you have been working for a company for a certain time.
