Hi my name is Jacquie and I’m studying Medical Laboratory Science at QUT.

In high school, I spoke with some industry professionals and they told me that if I was serious about a career in medical science, I really needed an aims accredited degree. So QUT’s accredited degree really does put me miles ahead in terms of getting a job once I graduate.

Another thing I love about this course is that we really are multi skilled when we graduate. We’re trained in various fields, such as haematology, immunology, microbiology and that’s really valuable to employers.

As part of the degree, we have the opportunity to do a large amount of clinical placement, whether in Australia or even part of it overseas. And I found my placement to be a great way to put everything I was learning into practice as well as an opportunity to experience the real world of medical science.

Everyone I work with here at QUT, from the lecturers to the practical staff, are all either currently working or have extensive experience in the field of medical science. I really love that because it’s not only a great way to learn from their experiences but also an opportunity to start networking before you even leave university.

QUT Gardens point campus is an amazing study environment. You’ve got the river on one side, the beautiful gardens on the other, and I love popping into the city for some shopping or a lunch date with friends.

I'm graduating at the end of the year and I’m really excited about putting everything I’ve learnt into practice. And I know QUT has put me in the best position to make a career out of medical science.
