AIDAN KERRISON:Hi, I'm Aidan and I'm a third year geology student at QUT, Gardens Point. In high school I was really good with chemistry but when I started doing my first year chemistry subjects I realised how lab-focused it was and I didn't want to spend all my time in a lab. I wanted to be outside in the fresh air, doing hands-on things.

Almost every semester we go on field trips that are more than three days. Last semester I went to a place called Arkaroola which is in the Flinders ranges and I would have never of got to go to this place if I wasn't studying geology.

Last summer I got to do vacation work with Rio Tinto and it was an awesome experience because if I was to get a job in that position it would be what I would be doing and it was a great way to get some extra cash.

I've also had the opportunity to undertake some extra work experience with a junior exploration company and its fantastic because with this work I get to understand what mining engineers do as well and this... it's all an extra learning process for me to understand more and hopefully when I get a job after I graduate this experience will help me with my career.

Hopefully I can get a job with one of the major mining companies in the world and be an exploration geologist and hopefully find some really cool deposits that haven't been found yet.
