KRIS ELVISH: Hi my name is Kris and I studied Urban Development specialising in Property Economics at QUT.

The reason I chose QUT is for the practical nature of the degree, you go out and you visit the sites, the teachers and lecturers take you and introduce you to industry speakers so you get first-hand experience from the professionals out there, and they walk you through so you're not just reading a text book but you're actually experiencing what you are doing.

I remember doing a assignments managing a development or analysing cash flows, and then when it came to actually getting into the work force, when I got a job I realised I was doing exactly the same things.

If you look at all the major developers' websites you will see they actually ask for QUT graduates, so it shows that QUT has a great reputation from the industry.

QUT really encourages the social networking interaction and through student organisations like Next Generation Property it introduces students to the industry in a social context as well as informing them of current matters. The thing I liked most about the degree was the atmosphere in the room. I've made some great friends and the things I have learnt from my lecturers I've been able to apply directly into the workplace.

I'm a Project Manager for the Sweeet Group and it's my job to manage a project from inception through to completion.

The best thing about my job is the ability to travel and work on projects wherever I want, so I've worked in Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney and fortunately with Sweeet Group we've got offices all over the world so I'm really looking forward to working in Paris or London or Hong Kong.
