MALCOLM PINKERTON: Hi, my name is Malcolm and I’m currently studying my final year of Mechanical Engineering at QUT.

The travel scholarship I was entitled to, SEW Eurodrive, started off in Bruchsal in Germany, which is about an hour from Frankfurt, and there were also two other tours of the factories in Graben and also one in the top of France in Natzweiler.

The first thing I noticed when arriving in Germany was the absolute freezing cold; in Queensland you get temperatures ranging from 20ᵒ to 30ᵒC, but when we first arrived it was -4ᵒC and every day after that was basically colder.

As part of my travel over in Germany, I also had the amazing opportunity to go to Sinsheim and have a look at the Auto and Technik Museum over there. At this museum you could see the Concord and actually tour inside of it, and there was also an incredible variety of cars, including Ferraris, Lamborghinis, F1 cars, Hitler’s two cars including his signature on the actual biform.

This experience I would highly recommend to any student, including any travel scholarship anywhere in the world. You’re never going to know until you go what you’re going to think of the experience, and you many only get one opportunity in a lifetime.
