DANIELLE DUNCAN: Hi, my name is Danielle and I’m a QUT graduate. I studied a Bachelor of Applied Science with a major in Ecology and a co-major in Environmental Science.
I am now working for a vegetation management company as the Project Officer.
I decided to go into Applied Science because I was good as science, didn’t really know what I wanted to do in high school, and excelled in vegetation, animals, things like that. So I decided to go with that, and also there’s a wide variety of careers that I can go into, it’s not just select little bits that I can do.
What I enjoy most about my job is being able to have a balance between field work and also office work, so I’ve got a bit of variety.
I go out to field the weeds, how to treat them, and cross-cutting as well, and also do hazard control of ferns.
My favourite part of studying at QUT was my exchange abroad, going to Canada, learning how they teach differently and the different subjects that they do teach compared to here in Australia, and it was really exciting just being able to experience life on a whole new level.
If I want to I could change my career in five to ten years and I’m not stuck in the same thing.
