The biomedical science course at QUT is a really hands on practical kind of course. It studies science in the context of medicine and it’s not just for finding cures into things like cancer but it can be used for some many different applications.
And then, there is the post graduate course which is the biotechnology degree and that’s for graduates of biomedical sciences or for other graduates who are really interested in commercialising technology and taking new products to market within this sphere of biomedical science.
One of the great things about studying science at QUT is the lab facilities, they have all of the equipment and you’ll use all the techniques that employers in the real world want. So with a degree like this you might end up being a microbiologist, a virologist an immunologist or other similar types of jobs, or you could end up somewhere you never even imagined, for example, I started my own skin care product development company and now I run a national scientific recruitment firm.
Biotechnology and biomedical science qualifications give you the skills to critically review products that are out there on the market, evaluate them for appropriate use and come up with better alternatives, and that’s important because employers aren’t just looking for somebody who knows how to play with tubes at a bench, their looking for someone who can add value to their business and think critically.
