The Graduate Diploma in Education is a course for people who are looking for a career change into education. As such, to be eligible to enter the Graduate Diploma in Education, you need to hold a degree already from a university and that degree needs to be outside of education.

We have a diverse range of students currently in our Grad Dip programs. We have people who may have previous degrees in law, in occupational therapy, in psychology – just to name a few.

There are four different Graduate Diploma in Education programs. These are early years ( P to 3), the primary years program for those of you who might consider teaching in primary school ( in other words from P to 7), the middle years program (for years 4 to 9) and the senior years program for secondary school (from years 8 to 12).

And there are strong practical components, for example, in the early years program we have what we call a Graduate Schools Program. In this program our students enter schools very early in the piece, for example around week 3, and then from there on they go to the schools one day each week throughout the program. So they have strong support in the schools while also accessing strong support here at QUT from our academic staff.

And you’ll find that the staff are experts in their field with many of your lecturers and tutors will have very strong teaching backgrounds. At QUT we pride ourselves in providing strong support for our students and this occurs right through to the end of the program. Just one simple example of this is the Stepping Out Conference that will be held towards the end of your program. This is the conference that provides access to professionals. It’s held on campus, but for those of you who can’t access campus, there are lots of online resources.

So if you’re looking for a career change and you are really passionate about teaching then please contact us, because this may be the course for you.
