Hi my name's Heather, I’m studying Medical Ultrasound at QUT.

When I started talking about my interest in ultrasound to my colleagues here at the hospital, they highly recommended that I choose QUT for my study. QUT has a great reputation and has been doing this course for quite a long time; they’ve got a lot of experience.

The university hours fit in very well with my full time work; there’s a lot of flexibility.

The best thing about having contact hours at the university is that I get to know the other students that are studying sonography quite well. I’ve made some really good friendships and some contacts throughout the industry and I get a chance to spend a lot of time with the lecturers face to face.

The way the program is structured is great. It allows me to work full time in my job here at the hospital and what’s really great is the time I spend here scanning in the ultrasound department, which is part of my normal job anyway, actually counts towards my prac at the university which is awesome.

The thing about being able to apply knowledge straight away in a clinical environment is that you’re not just studying for an exam, then writing the exam and forgetting all about it. You’re actually applying it and remembering it so it's information that you’re going to have for your future career.

I’m from Canada originally and part of the reason why I chose QUT is because QUT does have such a great reputation both locally and overseas. I’d recommend this course to anyone that’s considering studying in the Medical field. Ultrasound allows me to really have a positive impact on each patient that I see and I enjoy my work every day, I love it.
