QUT offers a one year post professional Master in Urban Design. To enrol in our masters you would need to have a prior degree in architecture, landscape architecture, or urban planning. Preferably with a bit of design skill background.

We also welcome applications from transport planners, transport strategists, ecologists, social planners and other areas. In fact urban design is totally an interdisciplinary and collaborative discipline.

Because urban design is focused on our cities and cities around the world it offers many opportunities for our students to travel to other countries and engage with universities, government organisations and the profession in various workshops. We have extensive networks through our academics at QUT, at MIT in Boston, Harvard, Columbia University in New York and also in Europe. Particularly in England at the Architectural Association.

Last year we were able to take 20 of our masters students to Shanghai to work with both Tongji University and the World Expo authority. We also worked with twenty of our award winning architectural and urban design practices as part of the HEAT Architecture program run by Queensland state government. QUT’s masters program is well supported by industry, state government, local government and the Urban Design Alliance, which is the only body across the whole of Australia that is devoted to urban design issues.

Graduates from the program have the opportunity to practice as urban designers with government agencies, or the industry and profession or can further their research through doctoral studies at universities around the world.
