Sample subject outline - Semester 2 2013

Note: Subject outlines often change before the semester begins. Below is a sample outline.

Rationale

As emerging performance artists you need to be able to successfully realise the creative process through to public performance. This experience will familiarise you with production needs and standards in the Australian Dance industry and give you the opportunity to learn how to create and produce your own artistic work in preparation for entry to the industry.

Aims

This unit aims to develop your choreographic process and extend your artwork through collaboration with other arts disciplines and technologies where relationships have already been initiated. It will also teach you how to produce your work in a theatrical venue. This is the final unit of study in choreography in your course and offers you the opportunity to experience the process of developing a work from its inception to public performance.

Objectives

On completion of this unit you should be able to :
1. Demonstrate confidence and innovation in articulating and exploring ideas through the creative processes of dance making.
2. Demonstrate clear choreographic intention in your use of dance/movement as artwork.
3. Reflect and analyse personal performance work, its processes, vocabularies and content.

Content

This unit involves creating a major piece of choreography. Your studio process will be supervised and you will be coached through the process of producing your work to a public performance standard. This work is to be performed in the discipline's New Moves season in the Woodward Theartre.

Approaches to Teaching and Learning

You will have formal class times where a range of activities may take place - video analysis, workshops, informal discussion, critical feedback session and production meetings for New Moves. Reading material will augment these sessions as required.
