Rationale
The fields of Financial Planning and Superannuation are growing rapidly in Australia. Both in terms of employment opportunities and personal knowledge the areas are seen as crucial to finance graduates today. This unit seeks to give students a detailed knowledge of the areas of Financial Planning and Superannuation.
Aims
This unit aims to give students a solid grounding in the world of Financial Planning and Superannuation. This will involve gaining knowledge of financial markets and instruments as well as the appropriate regulatory framework.
Objectives

Unit Objectives
After completing this unit, all students will:
1. be able to write and deliver a Financial Plan for a client (in a client-centered manner); including reference to taxation position;
2. have a detailed knowledge of the Superannuation industry;
3. have a detailed knowledge of Managed Investments;
4. have a sound understanding of various Insurance products; and
5. have a sound understanding of various Deposit products.

Content
The major topics covered in the unit are:
Approaches to Teaching and Learning
The basic teaching elements of this unit are the lectures, set readings and reference materials.
Lectures introduce substantial new material in addition to providing overview and analysis of set readings and referenced materials, and place these all in context within the overall unit framework. In terms of the unit objectives the lectures, together with set readings and reference materials, provide the knowledge of both the theoretical and practical material (Objectives 1 and 3).
All materials (including tutorials questions) will be provided for students in advance. The materials are available in advance to facilitate discussion within the seminars. In terms of the unit objectives the tutorial questions and the seminar discussion is to assist students in developing their capabilities in applying the relevant knowledge (Objectives 2 and 4).
In accordance with QUT policy, all units are to be subject to Criterion Referenced Assessment (CRA). The unit coordinator will provide students with further details regarding CRA during the course of the semester during class and on the unit's Blackboard site.
