This unit provides the opportunity for students to access and review a body of literature relevant to an area of individual interest in nursing. This will enable students to extend their knowledge and understanding of a topic which is not specifically addressed elsewhere in the course. In addition, students undertaking this unit will have the opportunity to develop advanced skills information retrieval, critical analysis and writing for publication.

Rationale
This unit will enable students to extend their knowledge and understanding of a topic not specifically addressed elsewhere in the post graduate course. In addition, students undertaking this unit will have the opportunity to develop advanced skills in information retrieval, critical analysis and academic writing.
Aims
The aim of this unit is to provide you with the opportunity to develop advanced skills in information retrieval, critical analysis and academic writing.
Objectives
On successful completion of this unit you will be able to:
- Access a body of literature relevant to an area of individual interest in nursing;
- Critically analyse literature relevant to an area of individual interest in nursing;
- Develop advanced skills in information retrieval; and
- Develop advanced skills in academic writing.
Content
You will work with the unit coordinator who will facilitate the review of a body of literature relevant to an area of individual interest.

Approaches to Teaching and Learning
This unit is delivered in internal and external mode. It is structured around self-directed learning. You will be encouraged to become involved in independent study and library research on aspects of the unit to suit your individual needs and interests.
Assessment
You will be encouraged, to select a topic for assessment purposes in consultation with the unit coordinator. The assessment topic will encourage you to study in greater depth according to your individual needs and interests.
A final grade will be awarded in compliance with the Faculty's assessment policy. You must keep a copy of your assignments.
Use of Assignment Title Pages
It is essential that you use an Assignment Title Page with the assignment you submit.
Assignment Presentation
You are expected to present tasks/assignments in an appropriately neat and sequenced format which reflects the professionalism of tertiary study.
Written Skills
The response to the task should conform with the word limit, be neatly presented and demonstrate a level of written expression that enables the reader to understand the points being made. Successful written communication demands a level of adherence to the conventions of language. Therefore, spelling, sentence construction and basic formatting of the paper will be taken into consideration by markers when assessing work.

Unless your lecturer has specified a particular form of special presentation for your assignments, please submit them on A4 sheets, stapled together with the title page at the front.Feedback will be spaced throughout the semester to optimise learning.
