Rationale

The specialised and technically specific nature of each student's research program requires a customised theoretical foundation. The availability of the unit is necessary to provide an appropriate focussed theoretical support program.

Aims

Objectives

To provide a high level of theoretical understanding of the principles of selected topics in physics.

Content

A course of lectures or a reading program on a topic selected by the principal supervisor. The content topic will be determined by the student's current research and availability of appropriate staff, visiting academics and specialist external personnel.

Approaches to Teaching and Learning

The unit will comprise an appropriate combination of a self paced reading program, lectures, workshops, laboratory work and field visits. The exact nature will be dependent on the student's research topic.

Assessment

You will be expected to undertake a number of assessments related to the learning outcomes of this unit (see below).Feedback will be provided to students through consultation with lecturers and/or supervisory staff.
