Rationale
Business employees are required to have a diverse range of administrative procedures and practices. This includes having effective communication skills to work individually or in teams as well as being able to produce accurate documentation using a variety of software packages following organisational policies and procedures. As businesses undergo continual change, the ability to adapt and integrate into new environments is essential for prospective employees.
Aims
The aim of the unit is to provide you with the skills and knowledge necessary to become valuable members of contemporary business environments. You will examine the impact of a variety of administrative procedures on business education as well as the skills to communicate effectively the role of these procedures in a business context.
Objectives
On completion of this unit, you should be able to:

Content
This unit will cover the following topics: Content relates to administrative practices and procedures relevant to any business environment. These include communication skills, practical skills to perform a range of business activities, ability to prepare and produce documentation in a range of business contexts using policies and procedures to achieve tasks in required timeframes.
Approaches to Teaching and Learning
The teaching and learning approaches adopted in this unit include lectures, tutorials and workshop discussions. Technologies will be used to facilitate discussions in an on-line environment to aid in the dissemination of information. The examination of the issues, through the issues paper will provide you with an opportunity to transfer real world examples into the education environment. The final task, the preparation of teaching activities will allow you to transfer the theory related to administrative procedures in the real world into the business education environment.
Assessment
Formative assessment is provided through feedback in tutorial sessions and/or e-mail discussions and through written comments on initial assignment work.
