To participate effectively in today's business environments, you are required to have the skills to operate a variety of software applications and appreciate the value in being able to integrate these packages. As well employees must recognise the need to continually update these skills as technology changes.

Rationale

Familiarity with the different types of social media are essential to the overall skills, knowledge and understanding required by all employees in any organisation. To participate effectively in today's business environments, you are required to have the skills to operate a variety of social media applications and appreciate the value in being able to integrate these packages. As well employees must recognise the need to continually update these skills as technology changes.

Aims

The aims of this unit are to:

- Provide you with the opportunity to develop technological skills and knowledge that you can transfer into any business environment.
- Understand the need to continually update skills due to the transient nature of computer software as well as produce outcomes associated with each package that meet business requirements.
- Understanding of the types of social media and their role in business.

Objectives

On completion of this unit, you should be able to:

1.Design engaging and flexible learning experiences for individuals and groups in a Business Communication and Technology classroom [QCT Standard 1]
2.Identify and use information about students to set learning goals that promote personal development and social participation [QCT Standard 6]
3. Design intellectually challenging leaning experiences for students of Business Communication and Technology [QCT Standard 3]
4. Commit to reflective practice and ongoing professional renewal [QCT Standard 10]

Content

This unit will cover the following topics: Content directly corresponds to the unit outcomes and includes the application of social media programs and applications and their use in a business environment. You will also develop skills related to the teaching of social media skills in a classroom.

Approaches to Teaching and Learning

The teaching and learning approaches adopted in this unit include the use of lectures, tutorials, workshops and discussions to develop advanced skills for a variety of software programs relevant to industry. The preparation of the critique of a unit or work on social media is designed to provide you with skills and knowledge essential to teaching business subjects. The final assessment task, the development of a plan for teaching skills in the business classroom prepares you for this role as future business teachers and prepares you for the development of resources that will assist in this process.

Formative assessment is provided through feedback in tutorial sessions and/or e-mail discussions and through written comments on initial assignment work.
