The conditions of current cultural practices, their production, reception and contribution to society are extremely diverse, increasingly complex and multi-layered. As a final semester unit, this unit constitutes an intensive study in the studio area(s) of choice to a professional level. Your sustained critical involvement and increasing commitment to artistic conceptual pursuits will be supported by intensive research into artists' practices and contemporary theory. You will be required to articulate a personal position in relation to these issues.

Aims

The aim of this unit is to provide you with the frameworks and experience to develop critical, creative and analytical thinking and artistic decision making skills to be a professional practising artist.It also aims to develop effective communication skills for the variety of contexts and modes you will engage with in the creative industries.

Objectives

On completion of this unit you should be able to:
1. apply artistic decision-making at a professional level;
2. formulate and produce a coherent body of work representative of the culmination of your studies;
3. display an increased critical awareness of contemporary and historical art issues;
4. articulate critical awareness of contemporary art issues in relation to your own practice, and the artistic practices of others.

Content

In consultation with studio staff, you will investigate and communicate personal artistic directions and conceptual frameworks.

Approaches to Teaching and Learning

Staff and student consultation; studio practice supported by varied flexible modes of delivery, including lectures, seminars, exhibitions, exhibition visits and industry experience where applicable.

LATE ASSIGNMENTS
An assignment submitted after the due datewithout an approved extension will not be marked. If you are unable to complete your assignment on time, you should submit on time whatever work you have done.

FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT
Studio staff will provide formative feedback during seminars and consultation sessions. All lectures, exhibition visits, studio critiques and individual consultations constitute FORMATIVE FEEDBACK. It is your responsibility to seek this out, and to document it accordingly. A mid-semester review of all individual work will be undertaken. The review is to discuss your progress, and to advise if there appears to be any risk of non-fulfilment of minimum requirements in this unit. Note: Final grades: Final grades are subject to moderation at Faculty Examiners meeting.

Description: Researched Studio Rationale (1000 words) and literature review of 6 significant references, each review maximum 250 words, both presented as word documents.

Description: You are required to research, prepare and present an oral presentation (10 minute presentation, 5 minutes questions and group discussion).
