Rationale
NB: Information in this Unit Outline is subject to change prior to commencement of semester
This is your professional year where you will demonstrate your understanding of the standards required of a professional actor. The unit offers current professional practice in both stage and film, with your guest directors placing total emphasis on the professional actor's craft. It further consolidates the skills acquired in theatre project one (KSB301), in a professional setting under conditions you can expect to find in the industry. This final year unit places you in a position where you may apply the theoretical and practical skills you have gained in the classroom to practical performance, enabling a smooth transition into your chosen profession.
Aims
This unit prepares you for entry into the industry through highly profiled stage and film projects. You will engage in a process of intense critical reflection based upon your increased range of technical and professional skills.
Objectives
On completion of this unit you should be able to:
1. Identify and demonstrate an understanding of the principles of acting for stage and screen and display a professional level of skills and performance maturity both as an individual and an ensemble member.
2. Access and use personal experience and observation to assist in the creation of a variety of roles and preparation for professional audition experiences.
3. Apply creative and analytical ways of thinking within your ensemble to solve practical and theoretical problems that arise in your text analyses.
4. Clarify your personal sense of ethics and aesthetics as they apply to your work and your career plan in your rehearsals and Journals. Demonstrate aa disciplined, professional model consistent with intercultural world perspectives including indigenous issues.
Content
You will participate in a season of high-profiled performance projects working with directors who have a national or international reputation, either as artists or as teachers. It may be possible in some cases for you to apply to undertake part of this unit through secondment to professional companies. The program includes:
*Performing on stage for the public in the Gardens Theatre and The Loft
*Film shoot for Showcase, Acting Works
* Choice and Rehearsal and performance of stage work for Showcase 2011
Note: Your stage performances in this unit are part of the public subscription season at QUT Precincts, Gardens Theatre.

Full physical participation in any class / rehearsal is subject to compliance with safe practice. Physical challenges are an inherent part of physical performance. The development of essential risk-management skills that minimise potential injury is a high priority with all lecturing staff and supervisors. Access to on-campus doctors and physiotherapists is possible at short notice.Theatres and film locations are potentially dangerous places, particularly backstage during performances when lowlight conditions prevail. You will be warned by the Stage Manager, the Production Manager or the Director of any specific risks when your project team first moves into the theatre or on to location filming. If you are aware of personal or emotional vulnerabilities you should inform your lecturer to minimise risk and ensure a safe environment.
