Rationale
Theatrecraft explores the areas of Scenery, Props and Costume necessary in theatre and live performance production. This unit introduces students to the basic methods and techniques of sourcing, construction and adaptation of these elements and prepares students to undertake basic responsibilities in set, props and costume roles on Creative Industries Productions.
Aims
This unit aims to introduce and develop practical and theoretical skills in the areas of stage scenery, props and costume.
Objectives
On completion of this unit, you should be able to:
1. Apply basic construction skills in the areas of scenery, props and costume
2. Understand and implement workplace health and safety practices
3. Have developed a sound theortical knowledge of scenery, props and costume
4. Participate as a crew member, through a practical staging, props or costume role on a Creative Industries production

This unit addresses content such as:
Safe working practices
Practical and theoritcal skills relating to the areas of scenery, props and costume
Approaches to Teaching and Learning
This unit will be taught through a combination of tutorials, demonstrations and practical work. You will undertake practical roles in the construction of production scenery, props or costume.
Assessment
LATE ASSIGNMENTS

Risk assessment statement
Workshops are potentially dangerous places, particularly when using hand tools and powered tools, items of machinery and working with hazardous materials. You will be warned by your tutor/lecturer or supervising staff member of any specific risks that you will need to be aware of when your project team first moves in to each workshop or work area or during class activities. Rules outlining Personal Protective Equipment required for tasks and any specific instructions with regards to the use of equipment should be carefully observed.
If you are aware of personal physical or emotional vulnerabilities you should inform your tutor if you are feeling unsafe or at risk in any way.
