Rationale

The ability to research, write and conduct critical analyses are essential undergraduate skills and creative projects require the attributes of a contemporary researcher. Aims

This unit aims to address the essential knowledge and skills required for critical academic research and academic writing. It will familiarise you with how research skills can be applied to creative practice, and prepare you for the professional practices required in project management of creative works.

Objectives

On completion of this unit you should be able to:
1. Identify and discuss the role of project planning in the realisation of creative projects.
2. Appraise, through research, the project implications of the range of creative concepts that you might undertake in subsequent BFA FTVNM production units.
3. Critically reflect on a range of creative projects and the necessary problem solving relevant to the development of your professional identity.
4. Apply written communication skills for Film and Television taking into account academic writing conventions.

Content

This unit addresses content such as:

  • Critical analysis commensurate with undergraduate learning and literacy standards.

  • The skills necessary to conduct rigorous research, project planning and management.

  • The unit intends to marshal these skills for the planning and execution of specific film, TV and new media production as carried out in the FTVNM course.

  • Analysis of creative projects that can also be applied in professional production contexts.

Approaches to Teaching and Learning

This unit fosters independent and self-managed student learning supported by workshops and seminars and in collaboration with the independent teaching and learning services offered through QUT library. Workshops and seminars will accompany self-paced learning and be conducted across the library's interactive learning facilities and FTVNM class spaces.
