The cohesive and reflexive nature of creative producers permits their successful skill transfer to a variety of employment. Understanding the importance of collaboration and professional networking in the Creative Industries is therefore essential. The unit aims to critique the relevance of collaboration and professional networking to the creative practitioner/manager and combines these with relevant project management skills.

Rationale

Understanding the importance of project design and management in the Creative Industries is essential for creative practitioners. Design thinking and project development and management skills are crucial for effective creative professionals. This unit is designed to develop knowledge and skills about project design and management in the contemporary creative economy.

Aims

The unit aims to provide the creative professional with:
1. An understanding of key concepts and principles of project design thinking and associated project management skills.
2. Skills and knowledge to apply design thinking approaches in the context of proposing and developing creative industries projects.

Objectives

At the completion of this unit, you will be able to:
1. Describe principles of project design and project management within the context of the creative industries.
2. Analyse and apply theories and practices of project design, with an emphasis on innovative approaches within the context of the Creative Industries.
3. Design a professional and feasible project proposal and report.

Content

On completion of this unit you will be able to demonstrate:
- Theories, practices and principles of project design / management and their application;
- Communication skills based on critical and analytical thinking; written and oral;
- Professional networking capabilities.

Approaches to Teaching and Learning

This unit will be delivered using a combination of lectures, seminars, workshops, group work and structured exercises (online or in class).

You will have opportunities to develop your knowledge and skills through participation in learning activities which encourage both independent and collaborative learning. This unit fosters a commitment to professionalism and ethical practice.

Assessment

LATE ASSIGNMENTS
An assignment submitted after the due date without an approved extension will not be marked. If you are unable to complete your assignment on time, you should submit on time whatever work you have done.

.FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT
In order to achieve the aims and objectives outlined, the unit will be taught using a combination of lectures and tutorials that encompass group work, structured exercises, contemporary Australian and international case study analyses and discussion.

At the completion of this unit, you will be awarded a final grade on a 1 to 7 scale.

Assessment name: Project Proposal Presentation
Description: A short oral presentation (5 minutes maximum) of a proposal 'pitch' introducing the preliminary project idea. This professional pitch will incorporate the project's concept, purpose, its innovation and importance, deliverables, estimates of resources and the project's viability. You must also submit a 1,000 word summary of your proposal pitch and the visual slides (maximum of 5) accompanying your pitch, including references.

Assessment name: 2: Project Proposal
Description: You will submit a project proposal of 3,000 to 3,500 words in preparation for your major KKP004-1/4 project. You must analyse and apply appropriate project design and project management principles and methodologies as introduced in this unit. You will also demonstrate that you have the required study area specific skills to undertake this project.
