Sample subject outline - Semester 2 2012
Note: Subject outlines often change before the semester begins. Below is a sample outline.
Rationale
Digital media in education is playing a significant role in the communication of information, the teaching and learning process, professional development and the various online contexts that may be associated with these. If educators are to play a significant role in the debate on how these technologies are to be used in teaching and learning then they, themselves, must be informed and competent users of the technology. Further to being competent users, they must know how to appropriately use these technologies to gain maximum benefit from them.
Aims
This unit aims to you equip you with skills and understandings in the use of digital media used in educational environments including Internet based environments. You will explore hardware and software associated with digital media environments and design and create resources that are educationally appropriate and support teaching and learning.
Objectives
On completion of this unit, you should be able to:
1. Understand the nature and scope of the uses of digital media in educational environments [QCT Standard 3]
2. Identify and critically examine the application of digital media in educational contexts [QCT Standard 1]
3. Design and create digital media artefacts that enhance learning experiences and develop language and literacy skills [QCT Standard 2]
Content
