Comparative study in the complicated area of 'Native Title'is essential to the principled development of Australian law and policy. This unit has the following aims: to engender an understanding of the development of the Australian native title doctrine in comparative context; to encourage consideration of the various dimensions of the contemporary Australian law and policy with reference to global legal patterns and attention to Indigenous perspectives; to facilitate a critical and reform-oriented examination of current problems in the field in Australia.
