ED61 TEFL IMPORTANT INFORMATION

In the TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) study area you are required to complete three (3) TEFL core units: CLN608 Second Language Acquisition; CLN621 Principles of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) Methodology; and CLN622 Professional Practice in the EFL Context; plus one (1) TESOL/TEFL option unit. At the beginning of each year, it is imperative that you enrol in BOTH semester 1 and semester 2.

CLN621 and CLN622 are offered in INTERNAL mode only, at Kelvin Grove Campus.

TESOL/TEFL OPTION UNITS: Option units can be selected from the following TESOL/TEFL units: CLN613 Second language curriculum design options; CLN615* Directed Readings in Second Language Education; CLN616 Language assessment in TESOL; CLN617 Personalised language development (recommended for international students); CLN618 Technology and 2nd language learning; CLN620 Language and culture; CLN640 Sociolinguistics; CLN641 From theory to practice - practical applications in the TESOL classroom; and CLN642 Grammar for Second Language Teaching. *CLN615 will be offered at the discretion of the study area coordinator. ORIENTATION: It is recommended that commencing students attend the Master of Education/Graduate Certificate in Education Orientation held at the Kelvin Grove Campus on the first Saturday after orientation week each semester. Orientation will include sessions explaining the course structure and content; discussions on relevant topics by academics and students; general discussion and question time; meetings with the study area coordinators; and sessions on the Library, QUT Blackboard, and academic writing. Details will be available on the Orientation Planner on your QUT Virtual. After accepting your offer, you will receive information about the event via email. Please make sure that you have linked your QUT email to your personal email so you can immediately receive emails when you become a student.
